How BoatLens estimates work.
BoatLens is designed to make boat-buying decisions clearer, not to pretend certainty where inspection and professional judgment are still required.
Data note
BoatLens uses a focused Canadian boat knowledge base, category benchmarks, manual market range anchors, and rules-based estimates. It does not use seller personal information, copied listing photos, copied listing descriptions, or copied marketplace data in live buyer estimates. Market pricing is a directional research estimate and should be verified against current Canadian listings, a marine survey, mechanic inspection, dealer consultation, insurance quote, and financing quote where relevant.
Boat knowledge base
BoatLens uses curated model profiles, category benchmarks, manual market range anchors, and buyer rules.
Market data boundary
Market ranges are not a complete national inventory or a guarantee of current market value. Pricing confidence is shown where estimates appear.
Category benchmarks
When an exact model is not available, BoatLens uses category-level context such as PWC, aluminum fishing boat, bowrider, pontoon, wake/surf boat, premium day boat, and cruiser assumptions.
Directional estimates
Outputs are educational planning estimates, not appraisals, guarantees, survey reports, or live-market valuations.
Listing privacy
BoatLens does not use seller personal information, copied listing photos, or copied listing descriptions in its buyer estimates.
Professional advice still matters
BoatLens does not replace a marine survey, mechanic inspection, dealer consultation, insurance quote, financing quote, or professional advice.
Estimated value change is separate
Recurring ownership cost focuses on cash-flow items such as insurance, storage, winterization, maintenance, fuel, and financing where applicable. Estimated value change is shown separately and is based on typical used-market aging, not a guaranteed resale result.
Storage scenario matters
Trailering can be materially cheaper than marina-kept ownership. Pontoons, wake/surf boats, premium day boats, and cruisers are more likely to carry meaningful slip, dry-stack, haul-out, launch, and winter-storage exposure.
Data expansion
BoatLens may expand manually maintained pricing anchors, user-submitted listing context, and partner data with clear sourcing and privacy boundaries.
Ownership cost calibration
BoatLens uses Canadian-style freshwater assumptions informed by Ontario marina rate pages, Muskoka/Georgian Bay service and storage pages, and Canadian insurance broker guidance. They are broad planning ranges, not live quotes.
Insurance
Canadian insurance brokers describe boat insurance pricing as dependent on vessel type, length, value, horsepower, use, storage, location, experience, and claims history.
Slip and marina storage
Ontario marina rates commonly price seasonal berthing by length or slip size, with higher costs for larger boats, hydro, launch/haul-out, and winter packages.
Winter service
Muskoka and Georgian Bay service pages show separate winterization, shrink-wrap, indoor/cold storage, PWC packages, outboard, sterndrive, and inboard service pricing.
Modeling choice
BoatLens blends these signals into broad category ranges. It does not quote a specific marina, mechanic, broker, or insurer.
Users should verify local costs with their marina, mechanic, insurer, storage provider, and lender before buying.
Calculator assumptions
BoatLens estimates are planning estimates, not quotes. Actual costs vary by boat, engine, usage, location, condition, storage choice, insurance quote, maintenance history, and fuel price. Calculator pages show whether values are default assumptions, user-entered inputs, estimates, or not included.

Canadian ownership cost class table
These are broad annual planning ranges, not quotes. They are calibrated around Canadian/Ontario freshwater use, with higher ranges for marina-kept, larger, more complex, or higher-value boats.
