Meet the Founder

Hello everyone,

My name is Nicholas Fortuna, and I'm passionate about getting out on the water with family and friends. That passion is what led me to create BoatLens: a tool designed to help Canadians make more informed boating decisions.

Growing up on the shores of Lake Simcoe, I was exposed to boating from a young age. My grandfather owned an 18-foot aluminum Starcraft from the 1980s. Like many older boats, it regularly needed repairs, replacement parts, and ongoing maintenance. Through those experiences, I saw firsthand the challenges and frustrations that boat owners face, as well as the lessons they wish they had known before buying.

As a teenager, my love of boating led me to work at Friday Harbour Resort in Innisfil, Ontario, Canada's largest inland marina. There, I helped boaters with docking, fueling, floating dock installations, and day-to-day marina operations. I had the opportunity to work with a wide range of boat owners, from families enjoying 19-foot runabouts to owners of 65-foot flybridge cruisers.

Over the years, I spent countless hours browsing boat listings and researching different models. I noticed that reliable information was often scattered across multiple websites, forums, and marketplaces. Buyers were left piecing together information on ownership costs, reliability, fuel consumption, and long-term value.

That's why I created BoatLens.

My goal is simple: to give Canadian boat buyers a better second opinion before they commit to a purchase. Whether you're buying your first boat or upgrading to your next one, BoatLens is designed to help you make more informed decisions with greater confidence.
